What Keywords Can Tell You About a Page

Use keywords to understand the reader's task, then review clarity, evidence, metadata, and structure without treating a density score as proof.

A keyword count can tell you how often a phrase appears. It cannot tell you whether a page answers the question, whether its claims are accurate, or whether the reader can complete a task.

That makes it a poor target for an editing session. If the only reason to add a sentence is to repeat a phrase, reconsider the sentence.

Search can relate words and concepts

Google describes several systems for understanding language. Its ranking systems guide says neural matching relates concepts in queries and pages, while RankBrain can find relevant content without every exact query word appearing. Checked September 13, 2026.

The practical implication is modest: explain the subject naturally. Use precise terms where they are needed and define unfamiliar ones. There is no need to replace a clear sentence with an awkward variation designed around an exact phrase.

Keywords remain useful research inputs. They can reveal that people use a different name for a service, care about a particular compatibility issue, or need a comparison before buying. Bring that information into the page brief.

Separate three different uses of “keyword”

A focus keyword entered in an editor is a tool’s input. A phrase in the visible copy is something the visitor can read. A meta keywords tag is a separate piece of page metadata.

Those distinctions prevent wasted work. Google states in its SEO Starter Guide that it does not use the meta keywords tag. The same guide says there is no ideal minimum or maximum word count for ranking. Checked September 13, 2026.

You can therefore decide how much explanation the task needs without treating a word count warning as a publishing requirement.

Repetition also has limits. Google’s spam policies describe keyword stuffing as filling pages with words or numbers to manipulate rankings, often unnaturally or out of context. Checked September 13, 2026. An ordinary repeated technical term is not, by itself, a reason to rewrite a useful page.

One word, three different uses. Search query: The words a person used to look for help. Page language: The words that explain the subject. Focus keyword: An input to a plugin's writing checks.
Keep the search query, page wording, and plugin input distinct. Use the article's editing checks to assess whether the page answers the question.

A more useful editing pass

Review the page in this order.

Purpose. State what the reader will learn or be able to do. A product page and a troubleshooting guide can cover the same subject while serving different needs.

Answer. Put the central explanation where the reader can find it. Then supply the qualifications and detail needed to use it correctly.

Evidence. Check claims about performance, compatibility, prices, and outside services against current sources. Replace an unsupported claim with the specific behavior you can demonstrate.

Structure. Use descriptive headings. Put sequential instructions in a numbered list and comparable facts in a table when that makes them easier to use.

Metadata. Make the title identify the page and the description summarize its value. A preview is a drafting aid, so check the actual text as well as the visual fit.

Links and images. Link to the next relevant explanation. Review image alternatives for meaning; the presence of an alt attribute alone does not establish that it is useful.

For example, “Our migration service transfers supported product records and checks a sample order before launch” gives a reader something to evaluate. “Best ecommerce migration service for ecommerce migration” adds repetition without explaining the service.

What WP Visibility’s checks do

WP Visibility’s editor checklist checks properties of the draft, including its opening paragraph, headings, word count, modification date, links, and image alt attributes. It does not calculate a keyword density score.

These are mechanical prompts for review. An opening paragraph can pass a length heuristic while giving a wrong answer. A recent modification date does not prove the facts were checked. An image can have alt text that describes the wrong thing.

Use a warning to investigate, then make the editorial decision yourself. The titles and metadata documentation explains the fields you can control.

Keep the test tied to the claim

If you change a title, record the old and new versions and why you changed them. If you improve a procedure, ask someone to follow it. If you add a missing compatibility detail, check that it answers the inquiries you were receiving.

Neither a green checklist nor an assistant’s favorable summary establishes a ranking or sales improvement. Those outcomes require their own evidence.

The same distinction applies to technical additions such as llms.txt: understand what consumes the feature before treating its presence as progress.

No. Google documents the Indexing API for pages with JobPosting or livestream BroadcastEvent markup only. A successful response means a notification was received, not that a page was indexed.
